Educated or Ignorant?

I probably have mentioned before about my passion in Politics. I always believed that no matter how dirty the campaign and tactics can be- truth will come out. By that time, people will learn and the more they will be able to educate themselves about the issue at hand. Jim and I have a different stand on politics. He’s more aware and had a better understanding on how the politics is being played here in the US.

When Palin had her acceptance speech, Jim was refueled and was back on track of being a Republican; while I considered the whole speech was cocky, sarcastic and hypocrite. He was fuming when I even chuckled when she finished. Well, I don’t know her and I did listened good enough, I guess. Then, my husband accused me of being jealous, haha! Well, it’s not funny at all. He said, she’s a complete package and that’s just a political strategy to attack another candidate. I agree (to the latter). Then, two days later my good friend called and she was so excited telling me about Palin. She said, Palin pretty much reminded her of my Mom. Ouch! So, we did talk and argued over an hour on the phone while I was so busy picking some canned Meat Loaf at the store to ship to the Philippines. Those people around me might be thinking I’m weird, lol!

Anyway, Jim and my friend B, apparently have the same points of view. They both said, I’m just being defensive because my Obama was being attacked. I thought that was hilarious! Well, I was expecting more from that speech. If it’s the strategy and it works; so be it. The part where I strongly disagree though were the comments of most Republican strategists telling people how lovely Palin looked at the TV screen and how strong she was on a lot of issues. “How lovely she looked?” Geee, I can’t believe I heard that comment. I felt like what’s the difference between Filipinos choosing an actor for President? Surely Americans are better than that. She never even strikes me to be the strong person that they were telling (she was bragging too) when I watched her first interview. I was expecting sleek, smarter answers to a lot of issues or even more substance. Well, I guess I forgot that she’s not a lawyer who can get around with answers and snap at it right away. It may not be fair to judge her by that interview and acceptance speech but time is running out of her. That's why, most people are pretty much excited about the coming debate for the VP nominees.
Oh, Politics… we all do have different opinions. It’s just a matter of educating oneself and seeking greater understanding. I admit, I am biased with this post. Isn't it obvious?

Well, it is good to have our own opinions. They should respect yours. It sounds like they do and it is good to have a back and forth banter about the issues. I don't think I have followed a campaign as closely as this one!

It sounds like you and I share the same kind of thoughts about Palin. Like others, I can hardly wait for the VP debate, but only because it will be fun to watch Joe Biden walk all over her. I don't see how she could possibly hold her own with him! These last six weeks of the campaign will be very interesting -- and telling!

We don't talk politics in this house. This has been a touchy year. Even my 14 year old seems to be jumping in on the debate.

hi shawie!

count me out. i'm from canada so it's obvious i care less about Palin or Obama. more so with politics. not and never been my cup of tea.

the news sez Palin's more popular with male voters (and non-voters, am sure). well, i guess she is to me, too.

she's pretty and sexy. and i guess that's just enough for me to know. not interested for some more! hahaha!

at least in the US politics quite makes sense.

Added to that, US politics doesn't end up with a big "I Am Sorry".

Palin scares me...I don't like her politics and I know even less about what she intends to do....like you said, I am looking forward to the debates...

I am not a supporter of the McCain/Palin ticket, but I will admit I was impressed with her initial entry on the scene. She did strike a chord with people or at least some anyway. But, regardless of the appealing or unappealing personal qualities she has or projects, there is still one thing that needs to be addressed...the issues! The bottom line is that I don't hear anything coming from her or John McCain that would lead me to believe that their administration would any different than the current one. End of story for me.

Something about her seems so phoney. I can't take much more I wish it were time to vote. My vote goes for Obama.
