Movie Date

It was a very interesting movie last night. My husband buried me in suspense when I asked him what movie we’re going to watch. He kept telling me it’s a SECRET and it’s a cute movie. Okay, I wondered why it’s an undisclosed thing. It sounded weird to me. We even went to a different theater. I just gave up asking when we were on the freeway. I thought we might watch movie somewhere in LA and it’s already 9PM. Maybe he didn’t realize it’s Monday the next day. We usually watch movies every Fridays or Saturdays.

Apparently, he chooses not to tell me about the movie coz he was afraid I might say “No”. I have always told him that I really don’t like horror movies. And the movie is all about dead people. Well, not really…
Departures follows Daigo Kobayashi (Masahiro Motoki), a devoted cellist in an orchestra that has just been dissolved and who is suddenly left without a job. Daigo decides to move back to his old hometown with his wife to look for work and start over. He answers a classified ad entitled Departures thinking it is an advertisement for a travel agency only to discover that the job is actually for a "Nokanshi" or "encoffineer," a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life. While his wife and others despise the job, Daigo takes a certain pride in his work and begins to perfect the art of “Nokanshi,” acting as a gentle gatekeeper between life and death, between the departed and the family of the departed. The film follows his profound and sometimes comical journey with death as he uncovers the wonder, joy and meaning of life and living. --Regent Releasing

The story was quiet unique and a superbly creative plot. It’s an unusual and a peaceful look at a sacred part of Japan's cultural heritage.

This is truly one of the best movies I had watched so far for this year. I even told my friend it is beautifully eerie. Eerie at first because of the process of preparing the dead for the coffin and yet as beautiful as art when one watched the whole process of it. Not to mentioned the music and sceneries were great in the movie.

Yes, the plot of the story is very beautiful and poignant. It's really exciting to watch a movie that you do not know what it is all about. Sort of keep you guessing. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.
